granada48It is interesting to learn that the word “arabesque” entered the French language in the 16th century to describe what is proper to the Arabs, or

ornament of plant, branches, foliage interlaced

However, it is even more fascinating to see the etymology of the word in the fine carvings of the  Nasrid palace walls, built by the Arabs for the most part, well before the word was used in French.  A true feast for the eye !
