Public Benches

bancpublic3Public benches conversation, contemplation, reflection and meditation. That’s why I use this image to illustrate my blog. In several cities or towns where I lived in the last few months, the public bench also fulfills a commemorative function: plaques indicate  how somebody loved sitting there to enjoy the view. Or how some other  was loyal or faithful. Sometimes, one would find flowers.

Here in Swansea, some plates are particularly touching. More than just a mention, these plaques tell of a loved one, a son perhaps. It tells a story about  how he was loved by all and describes the feeling of  loss the family feels daily and the lasting pain  caused by  his death.

I love  public benches, I love them all: they represent to me such a  beautiful sign of humanity.
